Zomer 2004 : Na de luizen in het voorjaar, voerden wespen en muggen de boventoon - de vleugeltoon, moet ik eigenlijk zeggen...
Augustus & september 2004
19 september:
Na een natste augustus sinds mensenheugenis, en een in 't algemeen nogal tegenvallende zomer met een hoeveelheid neerslag die de afgelopen 50 zomers overtroffen heeft - nog natter dus dan 2000 t/m 2002 - hebben we begin september nog een dag of tien heel mooi nazomerweer gehad.
Daarna werd het weer minder mooi weer, maar wisselvallig zonder extremiteiten. Eigenlijk is deze maand pas (!) mijn fuchsiatuintje gaan bloeien. Nu maar hopen dat de nachtvorsten dit najaar niet al te vroeg zullen invallen, zoals vorig jaar wel het geval was.
Tussen de buien door heb ik toch nog wel wat uitstapjes gemaakt, waarbij het weer doorgaans wonderwel meeviel. Zoals het jaarlijkse Friese regio-reisje van de NKvF op 7 juli, een stralende dag.
En veel later in de zomer de "Floralia", de keuring van de mooist gekweekte fuchsia - dit jaar 'Swingtime', waar ieder aanwezig lid in maart op de voorjaarsvergadering van onze regio een stekje van had gekregen. Van deze fuchsia-dagen heb ik 't één en ander op de site gezet.

After the wettest August ever according to the weather records in the Netherlands, and a summer that was altogether disappointing with amounts of rain beating those of half a century's preceding summers - so wetter than 2000, 2001 & 2002 which were extreme already - we had some nice after-summer weather yet for about ten days at the beginning of September.
Afterwards the weather turned unstable again, but without extremities. It was not until this month that my fuchsia's really started flowering. I do hope night frosts won't come too soon this autumn, like last year.
Between the showers I did take some trips however, with weather that wasn't too bad at all as a rule. Like the yearly trip of the Friesian Branch of the Dutch Fuchsia Society on 7 July, a bright sunny day.
And much later in summer, on 28 August the "Floralia" contest of the best-grown of the fuchsia-cuttings all members got at the Spring-meeting in March, this year of 'Swingtime'. About these fuchsia-events I put a few things on the website.
