Van bol tot bloemstuk / From bulb to flower arrangement

Vanaf juni hadden de bollen, na het uit de grond halen meteen gedroogd en zonodig gepeld, in de garage droog en luchtig in een bakje gelegen. Hierboven de bollen, zoals ik ze op 10 februari 2003 heb geplant. Er is al een krans van worteltjes rond de bolschijf ontstaan gedurende de koudere maanden. Ze zijn klaar om weer op ± 5 cm diepte in de tuin te worden geplant. Door de grond heb ik wat koemestkorrels gemengd. | Since June the bulbs lay dry and airy in a plastic box in the garage, dried and peeled immediately after they were gathered from the ground. Above some of the bulbs I planted on February 10th, 2003. Circles of roots already have appeared during the colder months. They're ready for replanting in the garden, about 5 cm deep, in soil that I mixed with some granulated cowdung. |
Keurig op regels, 5 x 5, worden de grootste in het gebruikelijke hoekje in de achtertuin geplant.
In 5 neat rows of 5 bulbs the biggest ones are planted on the usual spot in the backyard.
23 maart: Groene punten boven de grond. - 10 april: Een fikse hagelbui deert ze weinig.
23 March: Green sprouts above the ground. - 10 April: A shower of hail doesn't do them much harm.
In april komen de bloeistengels uit de bladkokers tevoorschijn

In het "traditionele hoekje" in de achtertuin staan ieder jaar de 25 grootste bollen, waarvan er tot nogtoe altijd wel eentje niet wilde bloeien.
Dit jaar dacht ik dat ze het allemaal deden, toen ik de knoppen telde - maar nee, de įllerlaatste rechtsachter liet het toch afweten!
Inmiddels oogst ik voor en achter rond de 50 ą 60 bloeibare bollen rond midden juni als de bloemen zijn uitgebloeid en de bladeren ook afgestorven, maar op verscheidene plaatsen in de tuin komen tegenwoordig bollen op die ergens "per ongeluk" terecht zijn gekomen of opgegroeid uit oorspronkelijk niet bloeibare kleine bolletjes. |
In the "traditional square" in my backyard the 25 biggest bulbs are planted every year, but up till now never all of them flowered. This year I thought
they all had formed a flowering stem, but no - the very last shaft I counted was empty!
These days I collect about 50 to 60 bulbs big enough to flower from back- and frontyard, around mid-June when the flowers are gone and the leaves have dried out, but in various spots in the garden these plants appear just like weeds, or come out of bulbs that were too small to flower a few years ago. |
